Building something with only a vision is difficult but if you never start, you'll never know. We are about 6 months in with owning this business and trying to rebrand who we are as individuals. I use rebrand lightly but it's still the right word. We are still the same people but we are throwing ourselves into our dreams and visions 110%. I want this to be a lifestyle.
It means more now because our name is on it. Outside of the shop I am coaching, training, and developing our youth through the game of basketball. A sport that taught me what hard work, dedication and team work really is. Passion. Passion is missing in so many kids when they step on the floor. But, as a coach that is what I set out to teach them to find. And that may be something outside of basketball but once we find it, we have to ride that river.
I fell in love with basketball at a young age. The same age as the boys are now. I was a decent player. Nothing special, just a really hard worker. Not an excuse, but I had some terrible coaches growing up and I wish that was different. Basketball brought me relationships with people I am still close with today. My first "real" friend and I talk still to this day about... basketball. Sure, there are other topics but that's still the glue to an almost 30 year friendship.
Life can throw some nasty stuff our way and it will. But, when we have something like sports, art, or music to go escape to and just be who we were born to be, it helps get through those tough times. For me, it was always Basketball. At 34 years old I am falling back in love with this game. This time I am not letting it go.
With love,
Coach Adam
